Prosecutor wants to punish parents who skip parent-teacher conferences
We are the only nation that incarcerate anyone for practically anything. It is to ones amazement why our penal system is overloaded and overcrowded. For goodness sakes, we jail individuals who uses a wrong gun to shoot a moose on federal land. Now, we have a county in Detroit pushing for a law that calls for jail time for parents who skip parent-teacher conferences. This is what we call a nanny state run amok.
The plan would require parents to attend at least one conference per year or face three days in jail. Of course, parents of good students are exempt from law(thank heavens for that). The school board wanted more parent involvement with their child's studies because the board felt that less parent involvement led to juvenile crimes.
The lunacy of forcing a PTA meeting between parent and teacher is the same as forcing every family to use 2 sheets of toilet paper to wipe themselves. Putting a parent in jail for 3 days is absolutely stupid. It serves no purpose.
